Understanding the World and computing

Autumn 2

This half term we are going to be comparing our country to The Arctic. We have started to watch videos about the video and we made a list about what we could see. 

Autumn 1 

Farm and Farm life 

We looked at different farm animal and used new vocabulary to describe them.  We looked at life on a farm and the different jobs there are. We talked about what job we would like to on the farm. Lots of us wanted to feed the baby animals and no one wanted to the clean out the stables and pens!

We had a great day out to Hay Rack farm, we had a hand on experience with the animals and found out lots of information about them. We even got to  choose animal feed and feed an animal.

Under the sea 

This half term we are looking at the ocean and sea creatures we will investigate their habitats. We will discuss the impact of the rubbish in our ocean. We will use a map of our local area and find our nearest beach and research what is there? how we will get there and how long the journey will take. 

Children will also be exploring the topic in the creative area where they will use scissors , glue and lots of creative media.

Look at our jelly fish that we coloured and cut out!

On a Thursday afternoon Mr Hathaway comes to class one and teaches the children computing. The children will be developing their computational thinking .This half term they will be looking at the Beebots and learning about movements and direction to help the Beebot move around a map to specific location.
