Spellings and Homework

Homework

Maths - Maths homework is set weekly, supporting the lessons taught in class. This follows the WhiteRose Maths Scheme. This goes home on a Tuesday and needs to be back in school by the following Monday, thank you.

Reading - In Class 3 'We strive for 5!' and encourage all children to read their reading book, to an adult, at least 5 times a week, for 10-15 minutes. Please remember to record this in your child's reading diary, thank you.

Your child will also have weekly spellings and times tables to practise at home.

  • The spellings taught follow the Pathways to Spell programme. This teaches the spelling objectives as outlined in the National Curriculum for KS2.
  • There will be 3 spelling lessons each week in class. These will explain the new spelling rule and allow time for practise and application of the spelling rule.
  • New spellings to learn at home will be at the front of the spelling book, with the test date.
  • A copy of the weekly spellings is attached below. Your child should know if they are in blue or green group.
  • The spelling test will usually be every Monday and will be at the back of the spelling book.
  • Please send the Spelling Book into school every Monday, thank you.

Times Tables

Times tables are a key focus in Year 3 and 4 and we will be doing weekly times tables tests in school, starting with the Year 4s.  We award the children with certificates when they have learnt certain sets of tables, Bronze for 2/5/10s, Silver for 3/4/8s, Gold for 6/7/9s and Platinum for 11/12 and mixed tables.  Once we have mastered these, we will work on the division facts.  To help your child with these there are a lot of websites that can help.  Please see the maths page for these.
