What made Jesus special?
We talked about friendship and what makes a friend special. The children thought about their own special friends and learnt about Jesus' special friends, also known as disciples. The listened to the story of how Jesus met his discipels and acted it out.
The children listened to the story The Stilling of the Storm. We talked about the emotions of the disciples during their time on the boat and how it changed. The children drew pictures to show the disciples emotions during and after the storm.
We listened to the story of The loaves and the fishes. The children studied artwork based on the story and thought about the most important parts.
The children decided which miracle story we had looked at over the half term was their favourite and explain why. The children created some beautiful pieces of artwork to go alongside their work.
Christmas - Why do we give and receive gifts?
We talked about how it feels when you receive and give gifts. The class received a gift and we talked about how it felt. We discussed different types of gifts - those that cost money and those that can be given freely.
Jesus' World, Our World -
How is the place where Jesus lived different from where we live now?
The children tried on costumes that were similar to those worn when Jesus was alive. We discussed how they were the same and how they had changed.
We decorated and created flat roof houses, similar to those that Jesus would have lived in and visited. We compared these with our own homes.
Harvest - How can we help those who don't have a good harvest?
We discussed where food comes from and identified that some food comes from our country and others are from around the world.
We knew that there were many different varieties of food, for example and tasted some to see that each apple is different and we are very thankful to God for this.
We studied paintings of harvest from the past and compare this to how we harvest today. We considered if everyone in the world is lucky to have good harvest and recognised that this isn't the case. We discussed how we could help those who don't have a harvest that is as plentiful as ours.
